The Same Agenda
Key Verse: “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what he see the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” –John 5:19
I’m a planner–and I follow a daily agenda in hope of achieving my personal goals. In the not-so-distant past, I found myself making plans without truly asking God what He desired me to do. Consequently, I found myself trying to fulfill my own desires in my own strength. God and I had different agendas.
Jesus, the Son of God, however, lived a selfless life according to the purpose, power, and plans of God Himself. In John 5:19, Jesus proclaimed, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing on His own accord, but only what He sees the Father is doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” Jesus, who was fully God and fully human, did what God desired; He and God lived in one accord. God the Father and Jesus worked together doing the same deeds. In fact, in John chapter 6, Jesus stated, “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” Jesus left the beauty and pleasure of heaven to fulfill God’s will. God and Jesus had the same agenda.
Likewise, as His children, God wants us to live according to His purpose, power, and plans. God may ask you to leave your comfort zone, your desires, and/or your will to embrace His will. Sometimes, this may require a big transition in your life, but other times, it could be as simple, and profound, as living your life according to His nature. Although God may not have shown you His will for your life, we can live according to God’s agenda–one day at a time.
