The Fragrance of Life
Key verse: “For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:15
There is little I like better in the morning than the smell of coffee! For me, that smell is what begins to wake me up and by the time I have finished my first cup of delicious coffee (with sweet cream), I am ready to tackle my day! My children, on the other hand do NOT like coffee. In fact, I know many who would disagree with me and say that coffee is not their favorite smell and definitely NOT their favorite taste! The Gospel of Christ is rather similar to a cup of coffee.
Have you ever noticed that some who hear the truth of Christ embrace it and their lives are changed forever because they have found LIFE? Yet others who hear the truth simply become angry and hateful! To them, the Truth means death, because then they have to admit that they are sinners. And the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
2 Corinthians 2:14-16 says, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?” Paul is saying here that our lives spread a fragrance. To some that fragrance means life, and to others it means death. And that is as it should be!
Despite the fact that not everyone will like the Truth, we still must live as Christ has called us to live. We must spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ throughout our world. If Christ is in you, then your fragrance is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc. You are the only Jesus many people will ever know!
Does your walk with Christ bring the fragrance of Life? Like a cup of coffee, does your life wake up those around you?
Be Still and know that He is God: Read through 2 Corinthians chapter 2, specifically focusing on vs 15. Meditate on these verses and ask yourself if your life is a sweet fragrance to the Lord?
Praise Him for who He is: Take the time to sing praises to the Lord, praising Him as the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Praise Him for who He is in your life.
Give Him thanks: Thank the Lord for all He has done for you. Thank him for His blessings and for the opportunities He has placed in your life.
Repent: Is there sin in your life? Has your life not been a sweet fragrance to the Lord? Confess your sins and repent of them. Then walk obediently hand in hand with your Savior.
Present your requests before God: Boldly approach the throne of grace and ask Him for those things you both want and need. The Lord loves you and cares about every part of your life!
Be still and know that He is God: Quiet your heart and mind focus on the Lord. Write down in your journal what the Lord is telling you and be sure it lines up with scripture.
